Briefs

Maximilian’s Brief

My idea was to shoot a scene in the pub, where a couple start an argument over something and she ends up telling him something he really doesn’t like the sound off and he kicks off and goes to give her a backhander. This then starts a huge brawl in the pub followed by the start of the music. Whilst the brawl is going everything turns into black and white and the lead singer will be standing on the bar whilst everyone around him breaks into dance. Once the main chorus is finished, the scene turns back into colour and everyone stops dancing and the fight continues. The scene ends with them making up and staring lovingly into each other’s eyes in the middle of the pub with everyone still fighting around them.

Dean's brief:

One brief that we considered was showing the main singer having a fight with a girl then storming out of the building. We follow him storming down the street, eventually going into a pub to meet a mate where he tells him what has happened. After leaving the pub, the main singer goes back to the building where the fight happens; he stands outside contemplating whether to knock on the door but instead decides against doing so. The last shot we see is a close-up of the door. During the video we will see flashbacks, shown in black and white, of what had happened and the story behind why we saw the two people fighting at the beginning. This idea is narrative based which complements the genre and also complements the lyrics as the lyrics of the song suggest there has been an argument/fight with a loved one.

John's brief:

Another idea we had was showing a point of view shot of the main singer with his girlfriend in their house arguing over her cheating on him. We hear how she tells him she still loves him going with the lyrics ‘She Said.’ The next moment we seem him leaving the house. Suddenly a car hits him from the side and he is left unconscious on the ground. To the horror of his girlfriend who witnesses the events of the last few seconds she rushes outside to help him. The last shot we see is a close up of her leaning over him sobbing saying sorry to him for the argument they just had worrying that was the last time she had to convince him that she still loves him. This idea is a narrative based music video complementing the genre style of music being filmed.

Kelly's brief:

The video starts with and man and a woman having an argument/discussion, it’s set at home and in black and white with no sound. During the argument the man storms out of the house and slams the door which is the first sound you hear and starts the music. The camera follows him down the street as he reflects on what has happened. He reaches a detective’s office but to his dread the woman is already there and she has already told him everything. Defending himself the man tells the story from his point of view using flash backs which are in black and white of the argument and happy times at the beginning of the video.

We have chosen to use this brief because we feel that it would make the best video to fit with the song. Also it would prove to be the easiest to film and make it look professional. We also believe that the storyline is interesting and can keep our audience happy

Music Video Analysis

Maximilan's Music Analysis

John's Music Analysis

This is my music video analysis, on the featured Rap artist Devlin. I have uploaded the seperate images from the powerpoint that I created and also have embedded the music video which I analysed.

Kelly's Music Analysis
This is an analysis of Nickelback's Savin' Me video. I chose this video because i really like the way the song links to the sensitive nature of the video and the clever way that is portrays how people can take life for granted.

The embed was disabled on youtube for this video , so instead I have put in a hyperlink to view the video on youtube.

Dean's Music Analysis

This is my music video analysis, I have uploaded the seperate images from the powerpoint that I created and also have embedded the music video which I analysed. I chose the song 'Take Back The City' by Snow Patrol because I believe that the style and genre of the song is very similar to the song 'She Said' by Plan B which we will be creating a music video for.

Kelly's Mood Boards

This is my Film Noir Mood board. As we have chosen this genre for our music video we needed to research films and other videos that resemble this to gives us a greater idea of what we need to create.

This is my Hip-Hop mood board that i think relates to the genre of Plan b and his music. Most of these images are known stereotypes and so are easily associated with this band.

Mood Board 3

Maximilan's Mood Board

Mood Board 2

John Mason - We also decided that we would create our music video using the Film Noir genre. We decided that me and Kelly would create another moodboard for this genre, whilst Max and Dean would analyse a piece of film noir text.

This is my film noir moodboard analysis that includes images of famous films and characters relating to this genre to help us with ideas for our video.

John Mason - This is my moodboard which shows the music genres RnB, Alternative and Rap which we will be looking upon for ideas to our music video.

Mood Board 1

Dean Goodsell - To create my moodboard, I thought about all the stereotypes associated with the hip-hop/r'n'b genre. I therefore found some images of artists within these genres. I also found that songs relating to crimes kept appearing and also included these aspects within my moodboard. These ideas helped us in deciding how we would attempt our music video.

Confirmation E-mail

Upon finding out the subject of our Media A2 coursework, our group immedietly decided to send an email to the record label of Plan B to ask permission to use his song, 'She Said'. A few hours later we then recieved the above confirmation email, allowing us to use this song providing we do not use it for commercial purposes.

Preliminary Task

This is our preliminary task. Our aim was to create a parody of the film, 'The Shining' where we have one character innocently waiting in a room. However, little does he know that this time of quiet and peace will soon be interrupted by the monster heading down the hall. He knocks on the door which catches the first character by surprise and upon opening the door hears the famous phrase, 'Here's Danny!'
